• Try
to combine your bake sale with an already-popular school or community
event (elections, high school sports).
• Match
your bake sale theme to the event. Combining with the school
art fair? Add a cookie decorating station where kids can eat
their masterpieces.
• Celebrity
bakers are a big hit. Cupcakes? Good. The principal’s
(or another notable baker's) cupcakes? Great!
• Don’t
limit yourself to baked goods. A crock of chili or hot chocolate
on a cool morning, or home-made iced tea on a hot day can be
big sellers.
• Think
about asking for donations rather than pricing each individual
item separately. Supporters will often make a bigger donation
than what they might have paid if you had price tags. They’ll
give you $1 for a cupcake (or maybe $5) rather than $0.50 you
may have felt comfortable charging.
• Make
it multi-cultural. Theme your sale by country. It’s a great
way to get support from a wide swatch of your school community.
You can even connect it with the social studies or geography
curriculum.
